Yemeksepeti appointed Esra Unluaslan as its new chief executive officer after Delivery Hero agreed to sell the Turkish food-delivery platform separately to New York investment firm SSW Partners as part of a broader restructuring of its business.
The appointment came as Yemeksepeti entered a new growth period, with Unluaslan set to focus on service quality and the user experience, according to a company statement.
Unluaslan joined Yemeksepeti after serving as general manager at Amazon Türkiye, where she oversaw marketplace sales, exports and delivery and led efforts to expand its seller base and product range and reach profitability.
She began her career as a foreign-exchange markets analyst at Goldman Sachs' New York office before moving to Boston Consulting Group. She later held strategy, growth and innovation roles at CPF Türkiye and Borusan Cat Türkiye.
Unluaslan earned her bachelor's degrees in economics and industrial engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School. She also completed a doctorate in management sciences at Bogazici University.
She described joining Yemeksepeti at an important point in its history and outlined a focus on user experience and sustainable growth across its network of couriers, restaurants, markets and other partners.
"Our priority will be to better understand the needs of our users and offer them a reliable, easy and seamless experience with every order," Unluaslan said.
"With Yemeksepeti's strong and capable team, we will build on our solid foundations, pursue new opportunities, accelerate innovation and create more value for our users and business partners across Türkiye," she added.
Delivery Hero and Uber announced a deal in July under which Uber offered to acquire Delivery Hero for €41.50 per share in cash, valuing the German food-delivery group at $14.8 billion. The transaction value was $13.7 billion after taking into account Uber's previous purchases of Delivery Hero shares.
As part of the deal, Delivery Hero agreed to sell businesses in 14 markets to New York-based investment firm SSW Partners for about $1.6 billion. The portfolio included Yemeksepeti in Türkiye, foodora operations in Austria, Czechia, Norway and Sweden, efood in Greece, Foody in Cyprus, Glovo operations in Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Spain, and PedidosYa businesses in Chile and Ecuador.
Uber published its offer document on Aug. 27, 2026, starting the formal acceptance period, which runs through Nov. 5, 2026. The takeover remains subject to a range of closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, with completion expected in the second half of 2027. Until then, Delivery Hero and Uber continue to operate independently.
The SSW Partners transaction is separate from the Uber takeover but depends on its completion. Uber will not control the businesses being sold to SSW Partners, which plans to work with their existing management teams and look for strategic partners for their longer-term ownership.
