The sixth edition of the Istanbul Digital Art Festival (IDAF) is set to begin on June 3 at the Ataturk Cultural Center, bringing together international and local artists under a theme that explores how stories are reshaped in the digital age.

Organized with the support of Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and implemented by Mezo, the festival will run from June 3 to 7 and will be held for the sixth time in Istanbul. Anadolu Agency is serving as the Global Communication Partner.

The event will feature a wide-ranging program that includes workshops for children and youth, theater performances, digital shows, robot displays, panels, and both visual and audio performances. Around 70 artists from Türkiye and abroad are expected to take part, reflecting the festival’s expanding international reach.

Theme reframes narratives, AI takes center stage

This year’s theme, “Retell,” centers on how narratives can be revisited and reshaped through digital tools.

The festival aims to encourage visitors to rethink individual creativity and collective memory from a more inclusive perspective, while also opening up discussions on how stories are constructed in contemporary society.

Artificial intelligence stands at the core of this year’s edition, not only as a technological tool but as a medium that transforms how artists interpret, think, and produce. The program will explore how AI influences artistic practices and contributes to new forms of storytelling.

At the same time, the festival will look into the broader role of art in questioning and reshaping social values, raising questions such as “What is value?” and “For whom and how is it produced?” These discussions are expected to frame AI’s place within evolving social narratives.

Curatorial vision blends human, machine perspectives

The festival is directed by Nabat Garakhanova, with Esra Ozkan serving as artistic director. The curatorial team includes Evgeniya Romanidi, Gonzalo Herrero Delicado, Burcu Ozturkler, Ozan Turkkan, and Ismail Erim Gulacti, alongside Avind, introduced as Türkiye’s first artificial intelligence curator.

Garakhanova emphasized that reaching the sixth year reflects the growing recognition of digital art, both in Türkiye and internationally, noting that the festival aims to go beyond showcasing technology by creating a platform that questions and builds new narratives through it.

As in previous editions, the festival will be open to the public free of charge.
