The 39th International Izmir Festival, organized by the Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education (IKSEV), featured a special concert titled “Bel Canto and Romanticism: Italian Sounds” at the Celsus Library in the ancient city of Ephesus.
Held in the historic setting of Ephesus Ancient City, the concert brought together audiences and performers for an evening dedicated to Italian opera’s rich tradition.
The program showcased selections from leading 19th-century composers, including Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini, Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini, tracing a musical journey from the bel canto era to the Verismo style.
The performance featured soprano Anna Cimmarrusti and Sara Minieri, tenor Lorenzo Martelli, and baritone Nicola Farnesi, accompanied on piano by Alessandro Zilioli. Their interpretations highlighted both the technical elegance and emotional depth of Italian opera, enhanced by the unique acoustics and atmosphere of the ancient Celsus Library.
Following the concert, IKSEV Board Chair Filiz Eczacibasi Sarper presented a commemorative plaque to Italian Consul Daniele Bianchi.
