The 33rd International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival opened in Adana, a city in southern Türkiye on the Mediterranean coast, with the "Orhan Kemal Labor Awards" presented to director and producer Aydin Sayman, actor and screenwriter Macit Koper, and actress Suna Selen.
The opening and the Orhan Kemal Labor Awards ceremony took place at the Merkez Park amphitheater, on the banks of the Seyhan River, and drew thousands of attendees. Ali Ihsan Varol hosted the event, during which the films participating in this year's festival were introduced.
Deputy Mayor Gungor Gecer spoke at the ceremony, noting that cinema reflects years of accumulated work and thanking the artists receiving awards for their contributions. He said the festival would continue over the following days.
"Altin Koza" means Golden Boll in Turkish, referencing the cotton cultivation historically associated with the Cukurova region around Adana. The "Golden Boll" trophy has been awarded since the festival's founding in 1969, making it one of Türkiye's longest-running film festivals.
Festival organizers said this year's program pairs veteran directors with emerging filmmakers and includes productions from multiple countries alongside domestic entries. Beyond the competition screenings, the festival includes film showings and related events at venues across Adana.
