Iranian director Ali Asgari premieres his Iran-set drama 'A Bit of Light' in the main competition at the Venice International Film Festival.
The film marks Asgari's sixth feature and follows his 2025 release 'Divine Comedy,' which screened in Venice's Horizons section, making this his first selection for Venice's top competition slate.
'A Bit of Light' follows a Tehran physician who loses his medical license and has his office shut down after treating wounded protesters during Iran's recent demonstrations. Believing he has nothing left to live for, he decides to end his life and spends what he intends to be his final day visiting his siblings and mother to say goodbye.
The story unfolds against the backdrop of looming war, as the threat of U.S. airstrikes on Iran hangs over the characters throughout the film.
Paul Jullien, head of sales at Salaud Morisset, the Paris- and Berlin-based company handling the film's international distribution, said, "We are extremely proud to represent the film and to see such strong interest from distributors, many of whom already know Ali Asgari's work and have been closely following his career.
''The story resonates very strongly with the current moment, and we can feel among distributors both a real desire and a sense of urgency to bring this film to audiences," he continued.
Salaud Morisset has already closed distribution deals for 'A Bit of Light' across several territories, including France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Benelux, Bulgaria, Greece and Brazil, with offers still under negotiation for the U.K. and Germany.
The film marks Asgari's first selection to Venice's main competition, following earlier festival runs for his previous features, ''Disappearance,'' ''Until Tomorrow,'' and ''Divine Comedy'' at Cannes and the Berlin International Film Festival.
