Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced on Sunday that cuneiform-inscribed tablets dating to approximately 1500-1400 B.C. have been discovered during excavations at Accana Mound in Hatay's Reyhanli district.
The tablets, dating to the Idrimu Dynasty period, were found as part of the "Legacy for the Future" archaeological program focused on the ancient city of Alalah.
"The cuneiform tablets dating to approximately 1500-1400 BC from the period of the Idrimu Dynasty were brought to light during excavations at Accana Mound, the ancient city of Alalah, conducted within our Legacy for the Future project," Ersoy said in a statement on his official social media account.
The tablets were discovered within a thick layer of ash from an ancient fire.
The inscribed documents contain specific information about furniture orders, employee lists from different cities, and details regarding the distribution of food and raw materials.
"These findings shed light not only on the religious life but also on the administrative and economic life of a regional kingdom under the patronage of the Mitanni Empire, one of the superpowers of the late Bronze Age," Ersoy said.
Ersoy expressed appreciation for those involved in the excavation.
"I thank the employees of the Cultural Heritage and Museums Directorate and all scientists who contributed to the excavations, and I hope that this discovery adds value to Türkiye's cultural life," he concluded.
