World-renowned Italian tenor, songwriter and composer Andrea Bocelli performed in Istanbul as part of a world tour marking the 30th anniversary of his landmark album Romanza.

The concert took place at Tupras Stadium in Besiktas, one of Istanbul's central districts on the European side of the city. Bocelli performed a special repertoire built around Romanza while also singing well-known works including Vivere, Vivo per Lei and Caruso.

Kenan Dogulu joins Bocelli on stage

Turkish pop singer Kenan Dogulu appeared as a special guest during the concert and shared the stage with Bocelli for Il Mare Calmo Della Sera.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency before the concert, Dogulu said Bocelli had long been one of the artists he looked up to. He described the performance as both a source of pride and an important moment in his career.

"He is a wonderful singer, an extraordinary person. Singing with him today means a great deal to me. I think this concert is both a great honor and an important page in my career," Dogulu said.

Romanza remains central to Bocelli's global rise

Bocelli was accompanied by conductor Marcello Rota, soprano Serena Gamberoni, baritone Roberto De Candi and violinist Anastasiya Petrysak during the Istanbul performance.

The concert drew strong interest from audiences, with figures from the arts, sports, and politics also attending. Among those present was Necmeddin Bilal Erdogan, president of the World Ethnosport Confederation and head of the board of trustees of the Ilim Yayma Foundation.

One of the most successful non-English albums in music history

Released in 1997, Romanza reached more than 20 million sales worldwide and became the best-selling Italian-language album of all time.

The album received Platinum and Diamond certifications in more than 20 countries and went on to become one of the most successful albums ever released in a language other than English.

It is also regarded as one of the key works that propelled Bocelli to international recognition.
