The 63rd International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival will run Oct. 24-31 in Antalya, a Mediterranean coastal city in southern Türkiye. This year’s theme is Always (“Daima”), and Anadolu Agency (AA) says 114 films will be screened.

Since 1964, the festival has brought together directors, screenwriters, and actors from Turkish and world cinema. Its history spans the Yesilcam era, the traditional name for Türkiye’s mid-20th-century film industry, to today's productions.

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality hosts the event at the Ataturk Cultural Center. The festival opens Saturday, with a traditional parade in which Turkish cinema figures greet the public from open-top cars.

The opening ceremony follows the same evening at the Antalya Sports Hall. The festival closes Saturday, with an awards ceremony at Cam Piramit (Glass Pyramid).

Actors Tilbe Saran and Menderes Samancilar will receive Honorary Awards at the opening ceremony. Abdurrahman Keskiner and Suzan Kardes will receive Labor Awards for their contributions to cinema, while actors Cem Yigit Uzumoglu and Leyla Smyrna Cabas will receive Young Achievement Awards.

Competitions and jury

The National Feature Film Competition includes 12 films. Writer, director, and producer Dervis Zaim heads its jury. The members are Aylin Zoi Tinel, Elif Demoglu, Fatih Artman, Meryem Uzerli, Sirma Bradley and Rahman Altin.

Festival Art Director Deniz Yavuz told AA the festival rests on six main sections: the National Feature Film Competition, International Feature Film Competition, National Short Film Competition, National Documentary Film Competition, Cinema Schools Student Films Competition and Film Forum. The international competition features 13 films, and the competitive sections award prizes.

Film Forum, held for the 13th time this year, evaluates film projects at the start of their journey. Yavuz said it has five categories and that the jury guides each project's next steps.

Share of premieres

Yavuz said the proportion of films screened for the first time has increased considerably this year. “Counting side sections, non-competitive and competitive sections together, we reached the 80 percent mark,” he said. “So 90 of our films will be screened for the first time in Antalya.”

The Cinema Schools Student Films Competition will take place for the third time. Yavuz said organizers asked cinema schools across Türkiye to send one film each, and they will select 10 to 12 finalists.

“We can evaluate the annual film productions and short films of students across Türkiye here and bring them before the jury,” Yavuz said. Finalists, producers and directors spend seven to eight days in Antalya together with cinema professionals.
