March 2026 brings a busy exhibition calendar as museums and galleries open new shows for the spring season.
Cultural institutions across Europe, the United States, and Asia are presenting major retrospectives and experimental contemporary works, while Istanbul’s art scene also welcomes several new exhibitions.
From historical painters to contemporary installations, the month reflects a wider trend in the global art world. Major museums revisit classical masters while artists explore technology, identity, and social change.
In Istanbul, several exhibitions open this month across the city’s museums and galleries.
Several Istanbul venues launched new shows in early March or will open exhibitions later in the month.
These exhibitions range from historical retrospectives to contemporary art projects that address social and political themes.
Pera Museum opened the exhibition "By the Water: The Life and Art of Halil Pasa" which explores the life and artistic production of Ottoman painter Halil Pasa. Curated by Dr. Ozlem Inay Erten, the exhibition examines the artist’s work across different geographies and periods using archival materials and works from private collections.
At Piramid Sanat in Beyoglu, artist Bedri Baykam presents "Baykam on Picasso: Les Demoiselles Revisited." The exhibition builds a dialogue between Baykam’s work and Pablo Picasso’s influence on modern art. The project began in Paris and now continues in Istanbul, exploring the relationship between historical references and contemporary artistic production.
A group exhibition titled "Constellations (or we don’t know what to do…)" will open at G-Art Gallery in Beyoglu. Curated by Vahap Avsar, the exhibition brings together artists including Ates Alpar, Beyza Durhan, Cengiz Tekin, Didem Erbas, Ergin Cavusoglu, Erkan Ozgen, Ipek Duben, Merve Unsal, Onur Fendoglu, Pelda Aytas and Vahap Avsar. The show explores the tension between global connectivity and growing systems of isolation and surveillance.
Another exhibition currently on display is "The Grand Excess" by Lal Batman at Pilevneli Dolapdere. The show critiques the artificial spectacle created by social media culture while combining historical and cross-cultural references. It also incorporates scent and sound design to create a multisensory experience.
Museums around the world are also presenting major exhibitions this month, bringing together classical works and contemporary art.

The New Museum in New York will open "New Humans: Memories of the Future" on March 21, bringing together artists who explore artificial intelligence and biological technologies.
