ArtNouva 2025 brings global art celebration to Ankara

Named after the early 20th-century “New Art Movement” (Art Nouveau), ARTNOUVA offers visitors a rich cultural atmosphere, spanning art galleries, architectural projects, universities, and private initiatives.
Since its inception in 2024, the fair has grown into a major hub connecting art professionals, collectors, institutions, and galleries. This year, the event will showcase nearly 1,000 artists across a 10,000 m² exhibition space, with over 100 participants from more than 20 countries, including major collections, special projects, educational institutions, and architectural and interior design firms.
Highlights and programs
- “Space and Art” – Professors Emin Kansu, Meltem Yılmaz, and Filiz Yenisehirlioglu explore the relationship between urban spaces and art in Ankara, presenting Hacettepe University’s artistic heritage with visual documentation.
- “Art on Campus: Middle East Technical University Collection” – Professors Lale Ozgenel, Kıymet Giray, and Celal Abdi Guzel discuss the formation of ODTU’s (METU) collection and the dialogue between art and public campus spaces.
- Burhan Dogancay Documentary: “Whispering Walls” – Director Eylem Kaftan and producer Ismet Erikan present the artist’s life and works in a moderated session by Professor Ismail Ates.
- “Art in Modern Pain Neuroscience” – Melek Anqi and physiotherapist/osteopath Dilba Kılıc explore how art installations impact healing in clinical settings.
- “Dystopian Themes and Improvisation in Contemporary Painting” – Moderated by director Durmus Akbulut with painter Rasit Altun, this session examines thematic influences on artistic processes.
- “PR of the Artwork and the Artist” – Professor Zeynep Karahan Uslu and Dr. Gizem Pamukcu discuss modern strategies for promoting art and artists.
- “Linda Nochlin and Gender Barriers in Art” – Dr. Fulya Turan revisits Nochlin’s groundbreaking 1971 essay to examine the institutional and societal challenges faced by women in art today.
- “Ankara and Art” – Moderated by Bekir Odemis with speakers A. Celal Binzet and Ayça Yusufoglu Koroglu, exploring the city’s artistic identity and cultural heritage.
Opening night and special exhibitions
ArtNouva 2025 will open with a spectacular performance by the Musa Gocmen Symphony Orchestra, blending classical music with a visual celebration of art. Special exhibitions include the State Theatre's “Silent Witnesses of the Family,” Association for the Power of Awareness, “Being a Woman in Ankara,” and Melek Anqi’s interactive installation “Dream Cartography: From Explorer’s Eye to Hiromita’s Call.”
Additional projects from Artonda, the Women Artists Association, Tohumluk Foundation, and groups such as Hevra Art Project and Diskapi Art Workshop bring diverse perspectives, highlighting creative innovation and engagement.
International participation
Global galleries will showcase works from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Iran, and South Korea, offering visitors a cross-cultural experience and exposure to unique artistic disciplines.
