The world-renowned Istanbul Photo Awards 2025, organized by Anadolu Agency (AA), has arrived in New York for its third exhibition of the year. The show, which follows successful displays in Ankara and Istanbul, opened its doors at Blue Gallery, showcasing the most powerful visual journalism of the past year.
An international jury awarded 29 photographers across 10 categories in this year’s competition.
Visitors to the exhibition are taken on a striking visual journey through some of the most defining moments of recent global history—from Israel’s ongoing attacks on Gaza and the devastating floods in East Africa, to the volcanic eruption in Iceland, athletes of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Afghan women’s struggle for survival, and the testimonies of survivors from Syria’s notorious Sednaya Prison.
Other featured works document Brazilian surfers braving colossal waves and the perilous journeys of migrants across continents.
Marking its 11th year, the Istanbul Photo Awards received around 22,000 submissions from photographers of 114 nationalities—a testament to its growing reputation as one of the world’s leading platforms for news photography.
The competition recognizes both single and series works in categories including news, sports, nature and environment, portrait, and daily life.
The exhibition will remain open to visitors at Blue Gallery until Oct. 26. Following its New York run, the award-winning photographs will move to the United Nations headquarters, where they will be displayed for a second time, reaching a global diplomatic audience.
This year’s edition of the Istanbul Photo Awards is organized with Turkcell as the communication sponsor, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) as the overseas event sponsor, and Turkish Airlines (THY) as the partial transportation sponsor. Details about the winning photographs and photographers can be found on the official website.
