The 23rd International Bodrum Ballet Festival opened in southwestern Türkiye with a performance of "Swan Lake," one of the best-known works in the international ballet repertoire.
Organized by Türkiye's Directorate General of State Opera and Ballet, known as DOB, the opening production was staged by the Izmir State Opera and Ballet at the North Moat of Bodrum Castle.
Audiences gathered inside the historic castle grounds to watch the dancers perform to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's celebrated score.
The atmosphere of Bodrum Castle provided the backdrop for the production, while the artists' performances drew strong interest from those attending the opening night.
Among the audience were Bodrum District Governor Ali Sirmali, acting DOB General Director and General Artistic Director Baris Salcan, Bodrum Municipality Coordinator Emel Cakaloglu and other arts enthusiasts.
The event also commemorated Almula Ozlem, the former chief ballet choreographer of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, who died at the age of 46 while receiving hospital treatment two years ago.
The festival will carry on with a second performance of "Swan Lake" before presenting a selection of other productions through Aug. 17.
