The second Cappadocia Horse Festival opened in Nevsehir on Friday, bringing together riders, horse breeders and equestrian enthusiasts from across Türkiye for a weekend celebrating the country's centuries-old horse culture against the backdrop of Cappadocia's distinctive landscape.
Held under the auspices of the Nevsehir Governor's Office and organized in cooperation with the Goreme Municipality and Cappadocia Equestrian Culture Association, the festival began with a mounted parade through Goreme before continuing with an equestrian procession at the festival grounds.
The opening day's program featured horseback riding exhibitions, horse training demonstrations and stage performances. Mounted officers from the Nevsehir Gendarmerie Horse and Dog Training Center also staged a demonstration showcasing their riding skills.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nevsehir Governor Huseyin Kok said the festival would help preserve Türkiye's equestrian heritage while promoting Cappadocia's cultural and tourism assets.
"The festival, held amid Cappadocia's unique natural and historical landscape, is of great importance in preserving our long-established equestrian culture and passing it on to future generations," Kok said.
"It will also contribute to promoting the region's cultural richness and further strengthen Cappadocia's tourism potential."
Participants said the festival provides an opportunity to promote traditional Turkish culture and equestrian sports.
