Cirque du Soleil will head back to Istanbul after a 10-year gap, bringing its production “OVO” to the city for a limited run, according to a statement shared by ticketing platform Biletinial. The show is scheduled to be staged at Ulker Arena from May 21 to May 24, with a total of eight performances set to be put on across the four-day visit.

A nature-driven production built around insects and movement

OVO,” which means “egg” in Portuguese, is designed around the ecosystem of insects and the rhythms of nature, using movement, color, and acrobatics to bring that world to life onstage.

The production is described as drawing audiences into small-scale worlds and then reflecting life back through the perspective of the insects it centers on, while also laying out stage design elements and acrobatic sequences as key parts of its visual language.

Costume design shaped by fashion references and stage mobility

The costumes were prepared by designer Liz Vandal, whose work is said to have been inspired by nature and the world of insects, while also taking in graphic lines and geometric forms associated with designers such as Pierre Cardin.

The costume concept also relies on fabrics and patterns chosen to allow freedom of movement, and it works in a pleating technique that was developed by Japanese fashion designer Issey Miyake and then adapted for stage use.

Music and set design that build up an immersive 'OVO world'

The music for the production was created by Berna Ceppas, blending bossa nova, samba, funk, and electronic elements into a single score. In the statement, Ceppas was described as having been inspired by insect sounds while shaping the compositions.

Stage design was carried out by Gringo Cardia, drawing on insect habitats to build a set that can shift in feel, at times turning into a giant forest or a cave. The floor is described as resembling a massive tree trunk, while an 8.5-meter egg sits at the center of the “OVO world,” serving as the main axis of the story.

Tickets for “OVO” have been put on sale through the Biletinial platform.
