Rock singer Hayko Cepkin stars as both Dr. Jekyll and his evil alter ego Mr. Hyde in the newly updated “Jekyll and Hyde Musical.”
The premiere, held at the Lutfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Center, marked the return of one of Istanbul’s most anticipated theatrical productions, combining powerful music, dynamic choreography, and a star-studded cast.
The musical, adapted and directed for the stage by Fatih Dokgoz, features Cepkin in the dual roles of Dr. Jekyll and his darker alter ego, Mr. Hyde. Renowned actress Pelin Akil joined the production as “Lucy,” adding depth to the ensemble.
Speaking at the premiere, Cepkin expressed his gratitude to all members of the production team and highlighted that the Turkish translation of the musical was prepared by Ayse Sedef Ayter.
He further noted that the venue had previously hosted the first of his symphony concerts on YouTube, which he described as an auspicious start. Cepkin added, “This musical, like the symphony concert, is likely to have a long and successful run.”
The musical’s lyrics were written by Leslie Bricusse, with music composed by Frank Wildhorn. Producers Onurcan Tas and Mehmet Uslu oversaw the production, which examines the enduring conflict between good and evil within human nature.
The principal cast includes Fehmi Karaarslan, Abdul Susler, Ali Ersin Yenar, and Sitare Bilge, supported by an extensive ensemble. The creative team features Pınar Ataer as choreographer, Sirin Dagtekin Yenen as set designer, Basak Ozdogan as costume designer, and Ayse Sedef Ayter as lighting designer.
