Contemporary Istanbul (CI) will bring together 70 contemporary art galleries from 16 countries at Tersane Istanbul from Sept. 23-27, with its 21st edition turning the spotlight toward Asian art scenes while also featuring large-scale installations and international projects.
The fair will open with a VIP preview on Sept. 23 before welcoming the general public from Sept. 24-27. This year's lineup includes 22 galleries taking part in the event for the first time.
Under its "Focus: Asia" program, Contemporary Istanbul will highlight art scenes from across Asia alongside its main gallery presentations.
The program will also branch out into site-specific installations, international projects and interactive and digital works, expanding the fair beyond conventional gallery displays.
Among the special projects are Japanese artist Chisato Matsumoto's "Sail of Light," Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa's "Inhabited Crate" and Johnny Depp's sculpture "The Bunnyman," presented through the SIGG Art Foundation.
Spanish artist Jaume Plensa's 7-meter-high work "Juana" will be installed along the Golden Horn waterfront, marking the artist's first public artwork in Istanbul.
The fair will also commemorate recently deceased artist Mustafa Horasan, who lived from 1965 to 2026, through a special presentation dedicated to his work.
Meanwhile, Akbank Sanat will host the exhibition "Garip Seyler Oluyor," curated by Professor Hasan Bulent Kahraman.
Together with the gallery program, these projects will make up the broader artistic program of Contemporary Istanbul's 21st edition at Tersane Istanbul.
