Italian fashion house Armani appointed Dario Vitale as creative director of its Emporio Armani line and Giorgio Armani Accessories on Wednesday, the company said, marking the first time the role has gone to someone outside the family that built the label.
Vitale, 43, previously served as creative director of Versace for about nine months in 2025, taking over from Donatella Versace before departing in December following Prada's acquisition of the Capri Holdings-owned brand.
Before that, he worked at Miu Miu, Prada's younger sister line, where he was credited with a period of strong sales growth during a broader downturn for the luxury sector.
He has also worked with Bottega Veneta and Dsquared2, according to a report by Anadolu Agency citing Italian news agency ANSA.
"I am honored to take on this dual role across Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani," Vitale said in a statement. "Armani has a powerful legacy and unmistakable design language, a heritage that has spanned decades and shaped the history of fashion. I approach all of this with a deep sense of responsibility and excitement."
Giorgio Armani, the label's founder, died last year at 91. Since his death, his niece Silvana Armani has continued to lead womenswear at the Armani Group, while his longtime companion Leo Dell'Orco oversees menswear. Both remain in their roles alongside Vitale's appointment.
In a joint statement, Silvana Armani and Dell'Orco described Emporio Armani, the group's secondary and more affordable line, as centered on "freedom, experimentation and energy."
"We are convinced that Dario's arrival on our team, as a talent already established on the international stage, will interpret its spirit with respect and authenticity," they said.
The company said Vitale's appointment would open a new chapter for the brand while preserving the design vision associated with the Giorgio Armani name.
