Dolly Parton’s iconic silver-screen debut is heading back to theaters for a special one-week engagement.
20th Century Studios, originally released by 20th Century Fox, is re-releasing the beloved 1980 workplace comedy "9 to 5" nationwide from Oct. 9 through Oct. 15.
Directed by Colin Higgins from a screenplay co-written with Patricia Resnick, the 1980 comedy stars Parton alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as office workers seeking revenge against their overbearing boss.
Net proceeds from U.S. ticket sales will benefit the Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Before her passing in late August at age 80, the country music legend told HuffPost that she and her original co-stars had spent years exploring concept ideas for a sequel, though the project never came to fruition.
Meanwhile, reports surfaced in 2024 that Jennifer Aniston’s production company was developing a remake of the classic film, though further details on its progress have remained sparse.
"We have no plans to be in that," Parton said at the time.
"But I do wish her the best, because the script I read, I thought, was really good and a new and different take that really brings the office up to date the way that people live now."
The announcement of the "9 to 5" re-release aligns with "Dolly Parton Day," celebrated in Nashville, across the state of California, and in communities nationwide to honor the late icon's enduring legacy.
Observed annually on Sept. 25, a nod to "9 to 5," the Dollywood Foundation hosts "Give Like Dolly Day," a global initiative dedicated to supporting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and promoting childhood literacy.
This year's event includes $200,000 in combined donations targeted directly toward supporting 21 nonprofit organizations across Middle Tennessee.
