Marvel Studios held its largest-ever Comic-Con panel on Saturday, drawing a crowd of 7,000 to San Diego's Hall H for a presentation that included previously unseen footage from the upcoming film 'Avengers: Doomsday'.
The panel featured a surprise appearance from cast members of 'Thunderbolts*' and the 2000s 'X-Men' films, who emerged from a hidden stage at the back of the hall and walked through the crowd to join the main stage.
They were joined by actors Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell and Robert Downey Jr.
Marvel screened an extended, Hall H-exclusive look at 'Avengers: Doomsday', showing Pascal's character Reed Richards confronting Doom, played by Downey.
In the footage, Doom raises an army of robots known as Sentinels and throws the character Thor aside. The scene also includes narration from the character Susan Storm, who says Doom's motivations stem from loss.
The event opened with a compilation of footage spanning Marvel-related films made before 2008, including scenes featuring Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Patrick Stewart's Professor X.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, joined by actor Jon Bernthal, also showed footage from 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', set for release the following week.
During his remarks, Feige acknowledged a leadership change at Marvel's comics publishing division, thanking outgoing editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski and welcoming his successor, Stephen Wacker.
Feige said Marvel's film and television output originates from the source material published by the comics division.
The panel followed the Monday release of the official trailer for 'Avengers: Doomsday', which drew a large number of views amid mixed reactions from audiences.
