Actor Ryan Reynolds appeared in character as Deadpool during Marvel Studios' Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, surprising the audience while seeking a role in the upcoming film 'Avengers: Doomsday.'
Reynolds emerged from the crowd wearing Deadpool's gray costume, a version of the suit that has appeared in X-Force comics but has not yet featured in a film.
He introduced himself to the panel as 'Ricky' and described himself as 'cosplaying hard.'
The panel featured the creative team behind 'Avengers: Doomsday,' including directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo alongside Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. The film is scheduled for release on Dec. 18.
Reynolds, in character, first addressed actor Paul Rudd, asking about the whereabouts of the character Thor and referencing a scene from 2024's 'Deadpool & Wolverine' in which Chris Hemsworth's character is shown holding a dying Deadpool.
Rudd responded with a reference to the Wrexham soccer club, which Reynolds co-owns with Rob McElhenney. Reynolds replied that Rudd was aware of the reason behind the scene.
Reynolds went on to ask the panel when filming for 'Avengers: Doomsday' would begin, questioning the cost of the appearance as a means of announcing the project.
Robert Downey Jr., who plays Doctor Doom in the film after previously portraying Iron Man, responded that filming was already complete.
Reynolds then asked whether the production involved additional photography or last-minute changes before abruptly ending the exchange, calling for a car and leaving Hall H.
He has not been officially confirmed for a role in 'Avengers: Doomsday.' However, speculation about his involvement has continued since the character last appeared on screen in 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' a film that grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
Earlier this month, Reynolds confirmed at Fanatics Fest that another standalone 'Deadpool' film is in development, without providing further details.
The same panel also brought news of two other upcoming projects. Actor Ryan Gosling was confirmed to star as Ghost Rider in a film directed by Shawn Levy, set for release in 2028. Separately, director Ryan Coogler announced 'Black Panther 3' for Dec. 15, 2028, with actor David Jonsson cast as an adult version of T'Challa's son.
Marvel's Hall H panel drew one of the largest crowds of this year's Comic-Con, with fans reportedly waiting more than a day to secure seats for the presentation.
