Erzurum has become the 14th stop of the Türkiye Culture Route Festival, bringing together 174 events across 11 venues through Aug. 23, with a program spanning concerts, exhibitions, theater, workshops, talks and local cuisine.
Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the nine-day festival opened at the Erzurum Museum, where provincial officials, lawmakers, festival representatives and art lovers gathered for the launch.
Deputy Culture and Tourism Minister Serdar Cam said Erzurum was hosting the festival for the fourth time, pointing to the eastern Turkish city's historical, natural and cultural assets.
Cam said the program would bring different branches of culture and the arts together with visitors throughout the festival. He also said the wider Culture Route Festival initiative aims to reach around 65%-70% of Türkiye's population.
Gastronomy has been given a prominent place in this year's program, with 39 designated "Flavor Points" set up around Erzurum to introduce visitors to regional dishes and products.
Among the local specialties being highlighted are cag kebab, a horizontally stacked lamb kebab associated with Erzurum; walnut-filled kadayif dolmasi dessert; lor dolmasi; su boregi; hingel; ayran asi; kesme asi; civil cheese and gogermis cheese.
Chefs and food personalities including Ayvaz Akbacak, Sahrap Soysal, Asuman Kerkez, Eyup Kemal Sevinc, Mehmet Fatih Kalaycioglu and Kubra Sultan Yuzuncuyil will also take part in the gastronomy program, visiting local businesses and the designated Flavor Points.
Following the opening ceremony, officials toured the "Sacred Relics of the Ottoman Empire" and "Living Heritage: Erzurum" exhibitions at the Erzurum Museum, both of which will remain open during the festival.

Music will make up another major part of the program, with free concerts featuring Oguzhan Koc, Sefo, Resul Dindar, Sinan Akcil, Kirac, Buray, Alisan, Murat Boz and Poizi.
Alongside the concerts, the festival will roll out exhibitions, theater performances, traditional arts workshops, talks, PhotoMarathon events and activities for children at different locations across the city.
The Erzurum Culture Route Festival will continue through Aug. 23.
