The 6th International Friendship Exhibition has opened in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital, at the Sredetz Gallery under the Ministry of Culture. Titled The Color and Poetry of the Soul, the exhibition brings together the works of 45 artists, most of whom are from Türkiye, while also featuring contributions from Germany, Romania, and Bulgaria.

A vision extending to Brussels

Curator and painter Rafiye Karaca said she was confident that each participating artist would leave an impression with their symbolic works. She added that the exhibition is planned to travel to Brussels, where it will be displayed at the European Parliament.

Speaking at the opening, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sofia, Mehmet Sait Uyanik, underlined the strength of bilateral relations. He described the partnership with Bulgaria as excellent across all fields, while also emphasizing the role of cultural initiatives in deepening ties. According to him, such projects not only strengthen friendship but also allow people of both countries to get to know each other better.

Artists reflect on their experience

Painter Filiz Sahin, who joined the exhibition with her work Leyla, said this was her first time in Bulgaria and that art had given her the opportunity to meet new friends. She explained that her expressive style incorporates themes such as layers of loneliness, journeys into the past, and images connecting past and future.

Artist Berna Bozkurt, who uses the lotus flower as a metaphor in her works, stressed the importance of presenting her art in Sofia, a city closely associated with Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Türkiye. For her, being in a place linked to his memory was especially meaningful.

The exhibition, which has drawn attention from Bulgarian art enthusiasts, will remain open to visitors until 5 September.
