Turkish songwriter and composer Murat Evgin has taken part in the new series Pluribus, created by Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul writer-director Vince Gilligan.
Evgin performs and arranges a Turkish-language adaptation of John Lennon's song Nobody Told Me, titled Bugunleri de mi Gorecektik?, which appears at the end of the second episode. The series began streaming on Apple TV on Nov. 7.
Evgin explained that the collaboration began with a virtual meeting in March with music supervisor Thomas Golubic, known for curating soundtracks for Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
During the conversation, Golubic shared that the new series needed cover versions of 1960s and 1970s counterculture songs in different languages and invited Evgin to take part.
He said he chose Nobody Told Me from a list of suggested songs, describing himself as a longtime admirer of John Lennon.
Adapting and rearranging the piece, he aimed to remain faithful to the original while integrating musical elements distinctive to Türkiye, including kanun, cumbus, darbuka and def.
Evgin noted that both Golubic and Gilligan expressed that the Turkish version fit the series’s tone. The recording has also been released in the United States by Sony Music America and will feature on the show’s official soundtrack album.
Reflecting on the experience, Evgin recalled his earlier involvement in the Netflix series Myths & Monsters as a composer but emphasized that performing as a vocalist in a U.S. project marks a new step for him.
The Turkish-language single "Bugunleri de mi Gorecektik?" was released on the same day the episode premiered and is now available as part of the Pluribus music collection.
