The Heritage Istanbul event, held under the theme “Secure the Future for the Past,” concluded in Istanbul with strong participation, reaffirming its position as a leading platform for cultural heritage exchange in the region. The event took place at the Yenikapi Eurasia Fair and Exhibition Center, attracting 10,560 visitors and 142 exhibitors over four days.
Organized with the support of key public institutions, including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the fair brought together a wide range of stakeholders from across the cultural heritage sector.
The event featured an extensive program of conferences, workshops, and panel discussions, with a particular focus on restoration, archaeology, and museum studies. Experts examined ongoing restoration and excavation projects in Istanbul’s Historic Peninsula, as well as broader heritage management practices across Türkiye.
Panel discussions addressed a diverse set of contemporary issues, including the protection of cultural property in conflict zones, the illicit trafficking of antiquities via digital platforms, the evolving role of museums, and the integration of artificial intelligence in cultural heritage preservation and access.
A central component of the fair was its emphasis on international collaboration. With participation from numerous countries, the event provided a platform for knowledge exchange and the development of cross-border partnerships in the preservation of cultural assets.
In a statement, Osman Murat Akan, founder of Heritage Projects, noted that the fair continues to demonstrate steady growth in both attendance and participation.
He emphasized that Heritage Istanbul has evolved into one of the most prominent cultural heritage events not only in Türkiye but also across the wider region, with future editions planned in Central Asia and, subject to conditions, the Middle East.
