The ninth edition of the Heritage Istanbul Restoration, Archaeology, Museology, and Library Technologies Fair and Conference kicked off Wednesday at the Yenikapi Eurasia Fair and Exhibition Center.
The four-day event, running until April 4, brings together national and international stakeholders in cultural heritage.
The program features over 130 companies from both public and private sectors, showcasing services and products in restoration, archaeology, museology, and library technologies. Visitors can attend conferences, workshops, technical tours and Heritage TALKS sessions, providing opportunities for extended engagement between exhibitors and attendees.
The fair hosts international institutions, including the Moscow Government Cultural Heritage Department, the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture, the Albanian General Directorate of Cultural Heritage Policies, the Sharjah Heritage Institute from the UAE, as well as Italian companies and Turkish restoration organizations.
Notable speakers include Director of the Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi Manuel Rabate, President of Blue Shield International Abdulaziz AlMusallam of the Sharjah Heritage Institute Stone and sculptor Edoardo Tresoldi.
Speaking at the opening, Istanbul Governor Davut Gul emphasized the importance of protecting the city’s cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations. He said, “Heritage Istanbul creates a strong bridge between the past and the future, allowing international expertise to inform local heritage practices.”
Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergun Turan highlighted that the Fatih district alone hosts about 36,000 historical artifacts, one-third of which are registered cultural assets. He added, “Cities like Istanbul breathe through their memory. Losing this memory means losing the city’s identity and soul.”
Other speakers included Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, Moscow Government Minister Sergey Cheryomin, Heritage Projects Founder Osman Murat Akan, and archaeologist Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ozdogan.
The fair this year emphasizes the Historical Peninsula, showcasing restoration projects, archaeological studies, museum innovations, and library technologies. In addition to exhibitions, the program includes B2B areas, interactive workshops, and technical tours to highlight best practices in cultural heritage preservation.
