Significant progress has been made in the Hidirlik Tower Archaeological Excavation and Viewing Terrace Project, which is centered around one of Antalya’s most iconic landmarks. The project has brought to light numerous ancient findings and is now entering its final stages.

According to a statement by the Metropolitan Municipality, archaeological excavations were launched in 2020 with approval from the Preservation Board, aiming to transform Hidirlik Tower—a key symbol of Antalya’s historical heritage—into a prominent tourist attraction.

The Department of Construction Affairs has completed restoration and conservation efforts at the site, while architectural works on the overall project are still ongoing.

In the northern and southern sections of the tower, wooden decking has been installed, along with glass flooring that allows visitors to observe the ancient ruins below. Transparent glass railings have also been mounted around the area to preserve the natural silhouette of the coastal cliffs.

One of the project’s highlights is a panoramic viewing terrace that will showcase various historical artifacts, including:

  • A column-lined Roman road believed to extend as far as Hadrian's Gate
  • A dolphin-figured mosaic with inscriptions
  • Remains of an ancient bathhouse
  • Ruins of an old ice factory

The site is expected to become an open-air museum in the heart of the city.

Visitors will be able to view archaeological remnants beneath glass panels embedded in the walking path, and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea view from the terrace area built along the cliffs.

Previous excavations, supervised by the Antalya Museum Directorate and the Preservation Implementation and Supervision Bureaus, revealed an inscribed mosaic on the southeastern side of the tower believed to date back to the Late Roman period.

Once completed, the Hidirlik Tower area aims to offer both historical immersion and scenic beauty, adding another unique destination to Türkiye’s rich cultural landscape.
