A centuries-old fortress on Thorne Island, Wales, has been given a new lease of life, turning into a fully equipped “party island” after standing abandoned for 17 years.
Thorne Island, located off the Pembrokeshire coast near Milford Haven, was originally constructed in the 19th century during the Napoleonic era to protect the harbor.
The fortress once housed around 100 officers, reflecting its strategic importance. In 1947, the island was converted into a hotel, hosting birthdays, weddings, and bachelor parties for decades.
However, following a change of ownership in 1999, the property was left to deteriorate. Although proposals were later made to reopen the island with a cable car connection, it remained unused for many years.
In 2017, former software company CEO Mike Conner purchased the island for £555,000 (approximately $750,000).
Over the next five years, the fortress underwent meticulous restoration, with building materials transported by helicopter to preserve its historic structure.
Today, Thorne Island has been transformed into a ready-made party destination, complete with a private nightclub and event spaces.
The property is currently on the market for £3 million (around $4.05 million), reflecting its significant upgrade and unique appeal.
