Istanbul Modern will bring together two prominent figures from the international photography world, Oluremi C. Onabanjo of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Diane Dufour, founder and co-director of Paris-based LE BAL, for the seventh edition of its "Panorama Talks" series on Oct. 7.
The event, organized as part of the museum's ongoing "Panorama: Dreams and Places" exhibition, will take place at the Istanbul Modern Auditorium at 6 p.m. with support from Burgan Bank ON Digital Banking.
Demet Yildiz Dincer, head of Istanbul Modern's Photography Department and one of the exhibition's curators, will moderate the discussion.
The "Panorama Talks" series, launched alongside the exhibition, brings artists and curators together with audiences to discuss creative processes and developments shaping contemporary photography.
During the upcoming session, Dufour will take up current debates surrounding photography, shifts in collecting and exhibition practices in recent years, and the opportunities created by the scale and management structures of independent cultural institutions such as LE BAL.
Onabanjo, meanwhile, will draw on her curatorial experience at the Walther Collection, Hamburg Triennial and Museum of Modern Art, or MoMA, while setting out her perspective on contemporary photography.
She will also share information about her upcoming work at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where she serves as a curator in the Department of Photographs.
Curated by Istanbul Modern Artistic Director Celenk Bafra and photography curator Demet Yildiz Dincer, "Panorama: Dreams and Places" brings together works created since the 2010s by 18 artists from different generations.
Spread across the first-floor galleries of Istanbul Modern, the exhibition explores imagined landscapes, fictional portraits and alternative ideas of space, inviting visitors to reconsider how people relate to the world around them.
"Panorama: Dreams and Places" will remain on view through Oct. 18.
