Tunceli Museum has been nominated for the 2026 DASA Award, one of Europe’s prominent museum honors, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced. Ersoy said on his NSosyal account that the museum had passed the first assessment stage of the European Museum Academy, known as EMA, and earned the title of candidate museum for the 2026 DASA Award.
Ersoy said Tunceli Museum, created through the restoration of a former military barracks, would represent Türkiye internationally in the category described as "Europe’s Best Museum in Learning Opportunities."
He said the award is given by the European Museum Academy on the basis of education, learning opportunities and visitor experience, adding that the museum had become one of Türkiye’s important city and archaeology museums.
"Tunceli Museum has been nominated for the 2026 DASA Award, one of Europe’s most respected museum awards," Ersoy said, noting that the institution would carry Türkiye onto an international platform.
The nomination follows earlier recognition for the museum in Europe. Ersoy said Tunceli Museum had previously been a finalist for the European Museum of the Year Award, known as EMYA, in 2022, and for the Luigi Micheletti Award, given by the European Museum Academy, in 2023.
The winner of the 2026 DASA Award will be announced during the European Museum Academy’s annual meeting, which will take place in Alicante, Spain, from Sept. 24 to 26.
Ersoy congratulated all those who contributed to the achievement and to the Culture and Tourism Ministry’s museum vision.
The DASA Award evaluates museums according to their educational work, learning opportunities and the experience they offer visitors, placing it among Europe’s respected museum awards.
