The Istanbul leg of the Türkiye Culture Route Festival brought concerts, exhibitions, talks, traditional crafts and children's workshops to venues across the city on its seventh day, bringing together classical, folk and contemporary performances alongside hands-on cultural activities.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the festival will continue across Istanbul until Oct. 4.

Istanbul sounds feed into new compositions

Pianist and composer Busra Kayikci performed at the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM) Theater Hall as part of her "Beyond Walls - Istanbul" project, presenting compositions inspired by different locations across Istanbul.

Recordings of real sounds captured around the city were also worked into the performance, connecting Kayikci's compositions directly with Istanbul's urban soundscape.

Elsewhere, the GOPSENFO Classical Music Orchestra performed selections from the classical repertoire at Rami Library, while the Presidential Classical Turkish Music Choir presented its "Hicaz Fasli" concert at the Taksim Mosque Culture and Art Center.

Hicaz refers to a traditional melodic mode, or makam, widely used in Ottoman and Turkish classical music.

Folk traditions and popular music share the stage

At the AKM Turk Telekom Opera Hall, Husnu Senlendirici, Serkan Cagri, Vassilis Saleas and Bulent Altinbas came together for the "Stars of the Clarinet" concert as part of the 8th Istanbul International Folk Music Festival.

The musicians performed works drawing from Anatolian and Balkan musical traditions.

Singer Oguzhan Koc also took the stage at the AKM Turk Telekom Open-Air Stage, performing a selection of his popular songs.

Photography, crafts and audience participation expand festival program

At Tarik Zafer Tunaya Cultural Center, the PhotoTalks program featured a photography screening and discussion focusing on the work of Tuna Alp Angel. The venue also hosted a question-and-answer session as part of its "Conversations" program.

Meanwhile, the 7th CraftIstanbul International Handicrafts and Design Fair continued at the Eurasia Show and Art Center in Yenikapi, displaying traditional practices including copperwork, mother-of-pearl inlay, carpet and kilim weaving, wood carving, filigree, tile-making, ceramics and ebru, the traditional art of paper marbling.

At AKM Culture Street, festival visitors also took part directly in the program through the Karaoke Caravan, choosing and performing songs themselves.

Children explore art, drama and design

Children's workshops at the Istanbul Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam included "Pictures on Leaves," "Marbled Istanbul" and "Drama at the Museum."

Participants created artworks using materials collected from nature, tried out the ebru marbling technique and joined drama activities inspired by museum exhibits.

At Orhan Kemal Provincial Public Library, children were invited to design their own libraries using Lego, while adults attended a talk by Erdi Ozgul titled "Holding on to Life: The Power of Love and Personal Struggle."
