The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) will once again present the ballet “Romeo and Juliet,” adapted from the story by William Shakespeare, with music by Sergey Prokofiev and original choreography by Ricardo Amarante.
The work, which tells a tragic love story, will be staged today, Nov. 5, and on Nov. 11, 12, and 14, and Dec. 5 at the Turk Telekom Opera Hall in the Ataturk Cultural Center (AKM).
Adapted from Shakespeare’s play, which has inspired different fields of art for centuries, the ballet is among the important works of the classical ballet repertoire. The piece also holds a special place in the IDOB repertoire and will be performed this time in an original interpretation prepared by choreographer Amarante.
The work’s original libretto, the text that sets out the story and structure of a ballet or opera, carries the signatures of Prokofiev, Sergey Radlov, Adrian Piotrovsky and Leonid Lavrovsky.
The production will be conducted by Zdravko Lazarov, with set design by Ferhat Karakaya, costume design by Serdar Basbug and lighting design by Onder Arik.
In the performance, the role of Romeo will be played by Batur Buklu, Matthew Solovieff, and Y. Berkay Gunay, and the role of Juliet will be played by Berfu Elmas, Busra Ay, Berin Gunay, and Elifsu Ozmen.
