The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet (IDOB) is preparing to debut a new production titled "Momentum" on April 17.

The performance brings together four distinct choreographies under one program at the Kadikoy Municipality Sureyya Opera House. This production serves as a showcase for contemporary dance and local artistic vision in Türkiye.

The production features works from four different Turkish choreographers.

Each piece utilizes music from classical masters or celebrated Turkish composers to explore diverse movements.

  • Interwoven: Choreographed by Deniz Ozaydin with music by Antonin Dvorak
  • Unison: Choreographed by Ebru Cansiz with music by Camille Saint-Saens
  • Kurgu (Fiction): Choreographed by Cigdem Erkaya Ozturk with music by Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach
  • Kocekce: A Rhapsody: Choreographed by Alper Marangoz with music by Ulvi Cemal Erkin

Contemporary dance meets historical settings

The creative team includes Gizem Betil for costume design and Bersan Bas for lighting.

These artists collaborate to realize the original perspectives of the choreographers on the contemporary dance stage. The Sureyya Opera House provides a historical backdrop for these modern interpretations.

Following the premiere on April 17, IDOB has scheduled additional performances for April 19, 24, and 27.

Audiences in Istanbul can purchase tickets to see how these four individual pieces form a singular momentum on stage.
