The district, located on Istanbul's historic peninsula, carried out survey, restitution and restoration projects on the fountains as part of an initiative known as "Miras Fatih" (Heritage Fatih), coordinated by the municipality's Cultural Heritage Preservation Directorate.

According to a statement from the municipality, work on each fountain begins with survey, restitution and restoration project preparation.

Following approval from Türkiye's regional Conservation Board, crews remove earlier unqualified interventions, expose original stone surfaces, complete missing architectural elements in keeping with each fountain's historical period, and renew water systems.

Mayor cites cultural significance

Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergun Turan said the historic fountains represent more than architectural monuments, describing them as part of Istanbul's civilizational memory.

He added that the fountains reflect the value placed on water, charity and people, and that the municipality aims to pass each structure on to future generations while preserving its original character.

Turan said the municipality is working to protect Fatih's historic fabric as a whole, using scientific methods to restore cultural assets ranging from mosques and cemeteries to madrasas and fountains.
