The Pera Museum in Istanbul is launching a new film program titled “Outside the Rules” to celebrate March 8, International Women's Day.
Organized by the Suna and Inan Kirac Foundation Pera Museum Film and Video Programs, the selection runs from March 6 to March 15 in Turkiye.
The program focuses on female directors who challenge traditional cinematic stories and social norms. The selection includes five films available through physical screenings at the museum auditorium and an online platform.
The "Outside the Rules" program explores women's desires and freedom through different eras.
The physical screenings feature two major 1960s classics that redefined cinema:
Museum officials stated the program invites the audience to "question the boundaries of established narrative and representation forms in cinema."
The digital portion of the program links the breakthroughs of the 1960s with todays emotional landscape.
Three experimental films by director Ceylan Ozgun Ozcelik will be available on the Pera Museum website from March 6 to March 13.
The films, titled “Ankebut,” “Witch Trilogy 13+,” and “Witch Trilogy 15+,” focus on themes of violence, fear, and resistance. These works offer a more internal and unsettling look at modern objections through a women-centered lens.
Physical screenings at the Pera Museum Auditorium follow this schedule:
Visitors can access the films with a discounted museum entrance ticket. You can purchase tickets at the Pera Museum reception or via Biletix.
Under legal regulations in Turkiye, all screenings are restricted to audiences aged 18 and over.
