Izmir hosts a wide-ranging cultural program this week, with state opera, ballet, theater, symphony and classical Turkish music ensembles presenting performances across the city's main venues from April 27 to May 3.
The Izmir State Opera and Ballet presents "Mozart Requiem," a modern dance production, on April 27, 28, 29 and May 2 at the Necdet Aydin Stage at the Bornova Culture and Arts Center.
A separate concert featuring "Stabat Mater" takes place on April 28 at the same venue.
The Izmir State Theater stages productions at multiple venues throughout the week. "The Chalk Tree" and "Ants / There Was a War" run at the Ragip Haykir Stage in Karsiyaka, while "Nine-Tenths of Desire" is scheduled at the Bozkurt Kuruc Stage at the Bornova Culture and Arts Center.
"Red-Winged Owl" plays at the Bornova Foyer Stage, and "Bug Hotel" at the Karsiyaka Foyer Stage.
The Izmir State Symphony Orchestra performs on April 30 at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center under conductor Nesrin Bayramogullari, with flutist Sefika Kutluer as soloist.
The Izmir State Classical Turkish Music Chorus presents the "Acemkurdi Suite" concert with soloist Esra Dilekli Demirok at the Izmir Culture and Arts Factory (IKSF).
The IKSF hosts a week of talks and workshops. European Patent Attorney Anil Bugra Alpayim leads a discussion on patents on April 27, followed by author Ozlem Narin Yilmaz's workshop on gender in fiction.
An "Anatolian Tales: Sahmeran" music recital takes place on April 28, with archaeologist Nur Kokum's mythology talk scheduled for April 29.
Two additional discussions on spinal cord injury awareness and restoration as a sustainability follow on April 30.
Exhibitions at the IKSF include Sevim Cizer's ceramic show "Preserving Time," running April 27–May 9, and Cuneyt Gurbulak's "Dreams at My Fingertips," on view April 28–May 10.
At the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center, director Sarah Gross leads a visual storytelling workshop on April 27. The Izmir Chamber Orchestra presents its "Chamber Music Series 2" concert on the same day.
The center's International Baroque Music Festival, in its sixth year, closes April 28 with a concert by Thomas Dunford.
