Tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and Italian pianist Antonio Farao took the stage in Istanbul with their Explorations project, performing as part of the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival.

Organized by the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation, known internationally as IKSV, the festival brought together jazz listeners for a concert built around improvisation, stage dialogue and jazz standards.

Quartet shaped by major jazz names

Lovano and Farao were joined on stage by bassist Ira Coleman, who has worked with leading figures such as Herbie Hancock and Dee Dee Bridgewater, and drummer Johnathan Blake.

The quartet carried the night forward with a repertoire centered on improvisation and jazz standards, giving the audience a performance shaped by both individual solos and collective interaction.

Lovano leads with distinctive saxophone voice

Joe Lovano, a Grammy-winning musician and one of the notable artists associated with Blue Note Records, stood out with the distinctive tenor saxophone style that has marked his career.

His performance formed one of the main pillars of the concert, setting up a musical exchange with Farao throughout the night.

Farao answers with energy and technique

Antonio Farao, described as one of the notable pianists on the European jazz scene, came to the forefront with his energetic approach and piano solos.

Farao, who has also taken part in UNESCO International Jazz Day concerts at the invitation of Herbie Hancock, built up a strong stage dialogue with Lovano during the Istanbul performance.

The concert ended with long applause from Istanbul music lovers, as the quartet wrapped up a night shaped by improvisation, jazz standards and close musical interplay.
