South Korean artists Kwon Eunbi and ATEEZ took the stage at the Istanbul Festival as part of a special program marking the Republic of Korea's Liberation Day, bringing together K-pop performances and cultural events in Türkiye's largest city.
The concert was organized through a collaboration between the Istanbul Festival and the Korean Cultural Center, according to a statement from Focus Istanbul Event Management, which is holding the festival for the fifth time.
Kwon Eunbi opened the K-pop program with songs spanning different periods of her solo career, including "Door," "Hi," "Hello Stranger," and "Unnatural," accompanied by dancers and visual performances.
ATEEZ later took over the stage with synchronized choreography and a set featuring songs including "Say My Name," "BOUNCY (K-HOT CHILLI PEPPERS)," "WORK," and "Enough."
South Korea's Ambassador to Ankara Boo Sukjong used the occasion to underline the longstanding relationship between South Korea and Türkiye, describing the two countries as being connected not only by friendship but also by a bond built through shared history.
Referring to Türkiye's role in the Korean War, Boo said the courage and sacrifices of Turkish soldiers had provided important support for the Republic of Korea and remained deeply remembered by the Korean people.
"Korean people deeply remember and remain grateful for this support. On the occasion of Korea's Liberation Day, I was deeply moved to see Turkish young people singing along to Korean lyrics and cheering with such enthusiasm during the Istanbul Festival Korean Days," Boo said.
He added that the event showed how a relationship built on historical solidarity was developing into a more modern and dynamic partnership through cultural interaction.
Focus Istanbul Event Management CEO Ozlem Adiguzel similarly said bringing different cultures together through music, art, gastronomy and traditions contributes to greater mutual understanding and friendship.
Beyond its concerts, the Istanbul Festival is bringing together entertainment, sports and interactive activities across the festival grounds.
Its main stage, inspired by Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan's approach to structural systems and arch geometry, stretches about 70 meters wide and 28 meters high. The production includes a large LED screen surface, hundreds of moving lighting fixtures and a line-array sound system.
Elsewhere, the Genc Sahne, or "Young Stage," hosts live performances, DJ sets, dance shows, talks and interactive activities, while a dedicated 3x3 basketball area features tournaments, exhibition games and competitions.
The festival also includes brand experience areas, activities for children and food options.
The Istanbul Festival continues Saturday with performances by Sunmi and MONSTA X before wrapping up Sunday with Hadise and Argy performing on the same night.
