Katseye, the six-member global girl group formed by HYBE and Geffen Records, and member Sophia Laforteza is making her first official solo move since joining the group, contributing a reimagined version of INXS's "Never Tear Us Apart" to the soundtrack of DreamWorks Animation's "Forgotten Island."
The cover, part of a soundtrack stacked with Filipino and Filipino-American talent including BINI, SB19, and Lea Salonga, is set to play during an emotional turning point between the film's two lead characters, Jo and Raissa.
The singer called her involvement in DreamWorks' "Forgotten Island" a natural progression for her solo career, pointing to how closely the project aligns with her personal values and cultural roots.
Speaking during a recording session for the film's soundtrack, Laforteza said the project felt like a seamless fit for her because of its focus on female empowerment, community and heritage.
"When I was told I was going to be a part of this project, I remember thinking, 'This is the most Sophia thing I could do as one of the first things I do on my own,' because of just how much it aligns with everything I believe in: my culture, celebrating women, family, and friendship," Laforteza said.
The soundtrack contribution comes as Sophia takes a step back from Katseye's group activities.
In August, HYBE and Geffen announced that Laforteza would be temporarily stepping back from promotional activities to focus on her mental health and well-being, becoming the second member, after Manon Bannerman, to take a mental health hiatus.
