A Turkish production company is remaking the hit South Korean drama "The Penthouse: War in Life" for local television, with the new series due to premiere in January.
Poll Films, run by producer Polat Yagci, is developing the adaptation. It will center on wealthy women caught up in family feuds, love triangles and fierce social climbing.
The company has not named its cast but says the lineup will feature well-known actors.
The original series, a revenge-driven soap thriller, aired on South Korea’s SBS network from October 2020 to September 2021 and ran for three seasons.
The series was written by Kim Soon-ok and directed by Joo Dong-min. Set in Hera Palace, a luxury high-rise apartment complex in Seoul, the story follows rivalries among wealthy families that spill over onto their children at an elite arts school.
The show starred Lee Ji-ah, Kim So-yeon, and Eugene as three women at the center of the conflict.
Its third season opened with ratings above 19%, and Lee won best actress for television at the Baeksang Arts Awards, one of South Korea’s top entertainment prizes.
The Turkish version has drawn early interest online, even though no casting announcements have been made yet. Fans have been suggesting actors for the leading roles and hoping the remake will keep the intensity that defined the original.
