French filmmaker Romain Gavras is set to direct a feature film based on last year’s Louvre jewelry heist, while a separate documentary series on the case is also in development, publisher Flammarion announced on Tuesday.
The productions will draw inspiration from the investigative book "Main basse sur le Louvre" (A grab at the Louvre), which examines the October 19, 2025 robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris, during which thieves stole jewels estimated at $100 million.
Film rights to the book have been acquired by production company Iconoclast, while rights for a documentary adaptation were secured by a British producer, according to Flammarion.
The book, written by journalists from Le Parisien, Le Monde, and Paris Match, is scheduled for release on Wednesday.
Gavras, whose recent work includes the 2025 Hollywood film "Sacrifice" starring Anya Taylor-Joy, will helm the cinematic adaptation. French trade publication Le Film Francais reported that the project is currently in development, although no official title or cast details have been announced.
Despite a seven-month investigation and the arrest of several suspects, authorities have yet to recover the stolen jewels. The authors of the book described the disappearance of the items as “a dense mystery” that continues to perplex investigators.
