Actor Mark Ruffalo made a surprise appearance at Macklemore’s "Free Palestine" concert in Dublin on Monday, where the rapper opened a benefit tour weeks after being removed from Ed Sheeran’s U.S. stadium run.
"There will be no peace until there’s equality," Ruffalo said at the show at 3Arena on Oct. 26, the first of three dates. Irish acts including Kneecap and Beoga also performed, and Hozier called for visas for students from Gaza.
Macklemore was dropped after he called for a "Free Palestine" while opening for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Sheeran has said the decision to cut him was the promoter’s, not his own. Macklemore has said Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, personally told Sheeran he would not be allowed to perform there.
Macklemore described the past six weeks as "crazy" but said he was grateful for the support.
The benefit concerts in Dublin, Paris and London have all sold out. Billed as "Macklemore and Friends," they are set for Dublin’s 3Arena on Oct. 26, Paris’ Accor Arena on Oct. 29 and London’s OVO Arena Wembley on Oct. 30.
Proceeds will go to 12 organizations supporting Palestinians, including Gaza Soup Kitchen, Medical Aid for Palestinians and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
Details on which artists will appear alongside the rapper are still to come, with lineups expected soon.
