A digital exhibition on the life and artistic vision of Henri Matisse, one of the leading figures of modern art, opened to audiences for the first time on Tuesday at CerModern in Ankara.

Presented as part of the Flow Dijital Sahne, the show brings together Matisse's artistic journey, the rise of Fauvism and his influence on modern art through a digital narrative. Fauvism, a movement associated with bold color and expressive form, is introduced through Matisse's break from conventional rules in painting.

Color takes center stage in Matisse's art

The exhibition focuses on how Matisse changed the established ideas about color and form, setting out an approach that interpreted objects through the emotions they brought out rather than through strict visual realism.

It also highlights the defining role of color in his work, showing how his style pushed forward a more expressive understanding of modern painting.

From early works to simpler style

The digital presentation follows Matisse's artistic path from his early period to the more simplified visual language he developed in the final years of his life.

Running through Aug 30, the show also looks at how the inspiration he drew from Morocco impacted his works, while setting out his broader contribution to modern art for audiences in Ankara.
