American rapper Megan Thee Stallion was hospitalized Tuesday night after falling ill mid-performance during her Broadway run in "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in Manhattan, New York.

A spokesperson for the Houston-born artist said she was transported to a hospital after experiencing "concerning symptoms" during the show on March 31.

"Doctors ultimately identified extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction, and low metabolic levels as the cause of her symptoms. Megan has since been treated, discharged, and is now resting," the spokesperson told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The production was halted mid-show after Stallion exited the stage, and an understudy completed the performance.

'My body finally said enough'

Writing on Instagram, the 31-year-old reflected on the incident: "I've been pushing myself past my limits lately, running on empty, and my body finally said enough. It honestly scared me. I thought I was going to faint on stage. I really tried to push through my performance, but I just couldn't."

She is expected to resume performances on Thursday, April 2, after taking Wednesday off to rest. Representatives said she is "incredibly grateful" for the support from fans and plans to return to the stage as scheduled.

Broadway debut

Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, began her limited Broadway run on March 24, playing Harold Zidler, the flamboyant club owner and emcee in the long-running musical.

Her casting marked a milestone for the production, as she became the first woman to take on the role on Broadway.

The character was originated by Tony Award winner Danny Burstein and has since been performed by Tituss Burgess, Boy George, and Wayne Brady.

Ahead of her debut, the rapper, a three-time Grammy winner known for her powerful stage presence and aggressive flow, emphasized her desire to expand her creative reach beyond music.
