Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo visited Hierapolis, an ancient Roman city located in Denizli province in western Türkiye, during the band's ongoing European tour.

The two musicians toured the archaeological site alongside the cotton-white travertine terraces of Pamukkale and posed for photos with their guitars among the ruins

Hammett shared the image on his social media account, writing, "We are gathering great inspiration."

The post drew thousands of likes within hours and prompted a wave of responses from Turkish fans.

The visit, however, did not signal what many in Türkiye had hoped for. As speculation about a potential Istanbul concert date spread across Turkish music circles, Metallica's official team confirmed that no tour dates are planned for Türkiye at this time.

'No tour dates planned'

Speculation about a Metallica concert in Türkiye had already been building before the visit, driven by the band's recent performances in Greece.

A social media post by Cengizhan Yeldan, a figure from the Turkish live events industry with ties to Morkon and Purple Concerts, circulated widely and fueled expectations of an Istanbul date.

Türkiye Today contacted Metallica's team directly to inquire whether any Turkish concert dates were under consideration.

The response was unambiguous. "There are no more tour dates planned at this time," the Metallica Club stated, adding that future announcements would be made via Metallica.com

'Trucks could not reach in time'

Yeldan, whose tweet hinting at behind-the-scenes talks between Metallica and local promoters had re-entered circulation following the band's Greece shows, responded to a separate inquiry from Türkiye Today, clarifying the situation.

He stated that the sole reason for the absence of a Türkiye date was logistical constraints: the band's production trucks could not reach Türkiye from Greece in time to hold a concert.

The explanation points to a recurring challenge for large-scale international productions in Türkiye.

Staging a concert of Metallica's scale requires extensive touring infrastructure—stage rigs, sound and lighting systems, and crew—all of which travel with the band between venues.

When routing does not allow sufficient transit time between stops, a country date becomes operationally unviable regardless of demand or commercial interest.

Whether the logistical barriers that kept Metallica out of Türkiye this cycle will be resolved in a future tour remains to be seen.
