Palme d'Or-winning Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan has wrapped up filming for his latest feature, "Pale Sun" ("Yorgun Gunes"), with lead actor Pinar Deniz announcing the end of production through a social media post.
Shooting began in Istanbul in early June before moving on to Assos. With principal photography now completed, the production has entered the post-production stage, where editing and other final work will be carried out.
Deniz marked the end of the shoot by sharing a photograph with Ceylan and adding the Turkish word "Paydos," an expression meaning that work has ended or that it is time to call it a day.
The film centers on Sabri, a man who lives alone in Ankara and travels to a seaside town after being invited to the summer home of his daughter, Defne.
Although the visit initially appears to offer an opportunity for the family to come together, unresolved tensions gradually surface. The central confrontation between Sabri and Defne drives the story, built around emotional distance, family conflict and the lasting influence of the past.
Production details previously described the film as exploring "the distance that time and silence create between people, through a father-daughter relationship woven with love and weariness."
Pinar Deniz plays Defne, while veteran actor Altan Erkekli takes on the role of Sabri. Osman Sonant appears as Defne's husband.
The supporting cast also includes Kerem Bursin, Mahir Ipek, Serkan Ercan and Sebnem Hassanisoughi.

The film is backed by Arte France Cinema and is being co-produced by France-based Memento Production and Ceylan's Türkiye-based company, NBC Film.
"Pale Sun" follows Ceylan's 2023 feature "About Dry Grasses," which competed at the Cannes Film Festival and brought Merve Dizdar the festival's Best Actress award.
Ceylan remains one of Türkiye's most internationally recognized directors, with films that frequently examine isolation, morality, memory and complicated human relationships through measured dialogue and character-focused storytelling.
His previous achievements include the Grand Prix at Cannes for "Distant" and "Once Upon a Time in Anatolia," the Best Director prize for "Three Monkeys," and the Palme d'Or, the Cannes Film Festival's highest award, for "Winter Sleep" in 2014.
Although film industry observers have pointed to a possible Cannes premiere in 2027, no festival plans or release date have been officially confirmed.
