Chloe Zhao’s Oscar-nominated film Hamnet has climbed to the top of Türkiye’s box office rankings in its second week in theaters, emerging as the country’s most-watched film since its release on Feb. 6, according to industry data.
Based on figures compiled by Box Office Türkiye, the film reached more than 164,000 viewers nationwide within its first 10 days, securing the leading position among films currently in circulation and signaling strong audience momentum shortly after its debut.
Although Hamnet began its theatrical run with an opening attendance of just over 20,000 viewers, audience interest quickly built up, allowing the film to move ahead of competing titles. The adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning novel gradually gained traction as positive reception translated into increasing ticket sales across the country.
Industry observers noted that the film’s performance reflects how word-of-mouth and sustained audience engagement can shape box office outcomes beyond opening weekend figures.
Data shared by cinema operator Paribu Cineverse indicated that the film accounted for 52% of the overall cinema market during the reporting period, meaning roughly one out of every two moviegoers in Türkiye chose to watch Hamnet. The company described the film’s success as notable not only in numerical terms but also in how audiences responded when deciding to purchase tickets.
The production, nominated for eight Academy Awards, has therefore stood out both commercially and culturally within the current theatrical landscape.
Audience analytics revealed a viewing profile that differs from traditional cinema demographics. According to Paribu Cineverse, the film was largely preferred by viewers aged 25–34 who maintain close engagement with technology and digital platforms.
The data further showed that 39% of the audience consisted of white-collar professionals, while 61% of tickets were purchased through online channels, highlighting the growing role of digital sales in Türkiye’s cinema market. For international readers, white-collar workers refer to office-based professionals typically employed in corporate or administrative roles.
Starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, Hamnet focuses on the mourning process experienced by William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes following the loss of their son.
The film brings O’Farrell’s literary narrative to the screen, exploring personal grief within a historical setting that resonates with contemporary audiences.
