Pedro Pascal is in talks to take on the lead role in Todd Haynes’ new feature "De Noche,' a love-and-escape story set in 1930s Los Angeles. If a deal closes, Pascal would star opposite Danny Ramirez, with the production moving ahead after a previous shutdown.
The film follows a corrupt police officer and his young lover as they set out from Los Angeles on a dangerous run to Mexico.
Ramirez would play the younger partner, while Pascal would take on the role of the compromised cop at the center of the flight.
The project previously lined up Joaquin Phoenix, and location prep had begun in Guadalajara before his abrupt exit led the production to stop last year.
Haynes co-wrote the script with Jon Raymond and had already completed presales to international distributors, a practice that secures advance distribution deals before a film is finished. After shelving the film, the director later signaled confidence in the material at the Marrakech Film Festival, noting that the script could come back to life in a different way.
Pascal recently picked up a second Emmy nomination for season two of "The Last of Us" and has appeared on the big screen with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps", A24’s "Materialists" and "Eddington".
Ahead, he is due to reprise "Mister Fantastic in Avengers: Doomsday" and appear in "Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu", pointing to a busy run as "De Noche" moves forward.
