The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California, honoring outstanding achievements in television. While the event celebrated the best in drama, comedy, and limited series, many celebrities used the platform to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Best Drama Series: The Pitt
HBO’s The Pitt took home the award for Best Drama Series. Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of a seasoned emergency room doctor.
Best Comedy Series: The Studio
Apple TV+’s The Studio made history by winning 13 awards—the most ever for a comedy series in a single season. Seth Rogen also received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Best Limited Series: Adolescence
Netflix’s Adolescence dominated the limited series categories, winning six awards, including Best Limited Series. Stephen Graham won Best Actor, with Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty receiving supporting acting awards.
The awards ceremony also served as a platform for political and humanitarian statements. Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem arrived on the red carpet wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh, drawing attention to the conflict in Gaza.
Bardem condemned what he described as the “genocide in Gaza” and vowed never to participate in films or projects that support or justify Israel’s attacks.
He called for international sanctions against Israel and voiced his support for a free Palestine, saying, “This is about human lives, and we cannot remain silent.”
American comedian and actor Megan Stalter also used her appearance to spotlight the crisis, carrying a bag emblazoned with the word “Ceasefire.”
Stalter emphasized the importance of speaking out about global conflicts, stating, “The most important thing in the world is peace. Talking about real suffering is far more important than what we wear on the red carpet.”
During the ceremony, Hannah Einbinder publicly called for a free Palestine. After the award ceremony, she explained her position, emphasizing her responsibility as a Jewish individual to separate Jewish identity from the actions of the Israeli government and expressing support for organizations advocating for human rights in Palestine.
