Turkish President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbas paid an official visit to Egypt on Monday, highlighting the deep historical, geographical and economic ties between Ankara and Cairo. During the visit, he emphasized that by uniting these shared strengths, the two nations could help alleviate the suffering of many people around the world—foremost among them the Palestinians.
The visit of Erbas to Cairo was his first in 18 years.
As part of that two-day visit, Erbas is responding to an invitation from Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf, Usama El-Ezheri, according to the Turkish Embassy in Egypt.
During the meeting, Erbas stated, “By uniting these resources, we can help alleviate the suffering of many of our brothers and sisters in need around the world—foremost among them, our Palestinian brothers. We are closely following Egypt’s efforts and appreciate their commitment to providing aid and support.”
Highlighting the need for unity and solidarity in the Islamic world against oppression, Erbas said, “God willing, the entire Islamic world will unite its resources and strength, and these pains will come to an end. This is not only the concern of the Islamic world but a matter of humanity as a whole. We will continue to appeal to the conscience of all humanity and strive to end oppression wherever it exists in the world.”
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf, Usama El-Ezheri, acknowledged Egypt's great pleasure in welcoming President Erbas, emphasizing the honor he felt due to the strong bonds of brotherhood and friendship between the countries.
He further stated that the resolution of the Palestinian issue depends on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He also expressed pride in the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations.
Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Sen, said on X that he accompanied Erbas during his visit to Al-Hussein Mosque.
The visit encompassed several prominent Egyptian historical sites, including the Sultan Hassan and Al-Rifa’i Mosques, the Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi and the Muhammad Ali Mosque.
Erbas, accompanied by Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf Usama El-Ezheri, toured the Grand Mosque of Egypt, the Islamic Cultural Center and the Quran House—where he performed the call to prayer.
The visit concluded at the Egypt Islamic Cultural Mosque in the New Administrative Capital, according to the Turkish Embassy in Cairo.
