"Final Destination: Bloodlines," directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, is a 2025 American supernatural horror film and the sixth installment in the "Final Destination" franchise, following 2011's "Final Destination 5."

If you are unaware, the franchise is known for its unique premise: a group of people narrowly escaping a catastrophic event due to a premonition, only to be hunted down by death itself in elaborate and gruesome ways.

'Final Destination: Bloodlines' story recap

Without spoiling anything, "Bloodlines" follows the story of Stephanie, a college student plagued by a recurring violent nightmare. She returns home to her family and seeks help from her grandmother, Iris, as the nightmare is related to her past.

Stephanie learns that she and her family are plagued by a curse due to her grandmother’s actions, and now death is after her whole family. Stephanie tries to find a way to save herself and her family; however, with the Final Destination franchise, there is little hope for survival.

Reception of 'Final Destination: Bloodlines'

"Final Destination: Bloodlines" has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from both critics and audiences, making it the best-reviewed film in the "Final Destination" franchise to date.

The movie has the highest rating in the history of the series and an amazing 93% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is based on 55 to 89 reviews. This is a rare accomplishment for a horror movie. It outperforms earlier entries like "Final Destination 2" (52%) and "Final Destination 5" (63%).

Critics praised the film for its inventive and gruesome death sequences, clever expansion of the franchise’s mythology, and a fresh narrative approach that balances horror with dark humor. The blend of practical and CGI effects was noted as seamless, enhancing tension and entertainment value.

Personal criticism for 'Final Destination: Bloodlines'

While the film received a majority of positive reviews from both critics and audiences, I believe this film is the weakest in the entire franchise.

The film’s fast pacing does not allow the viewer or the characters to properly grasp the nature of their impending situation. The tension, usually found in the other films of the franchise, is almost entirely non-existent. The "Bloodline" concept is poorly executed, making no effort to properly explain why death took years to reach Stephanie and her family.

The death sequences throughout the film, specifically the film’s opening, were done well enough to make the film enjoyable, and the tribute to the late Tony Todd’s final performance as William Bloodworth was handled with care.

Nonetheless, "Final Destination: Bloodlines" is being celebrated as a strong and entertaining
addition to the series, revitalizing the franchise with high-quality filmmaking and adding a new twist to its core concept.
